Here is some more information about Robert Bristow, psychotherapist.

Robert is a Pluralistic-Integrative Psychotherapist, graduate member of the British Psychological Society and Human Givens Institute, and senior member of the ACCPH (Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists), working with clients of any age. He wishes to work to improve wellbeing in anyone experiencing difficulties and challenges in their life. Robert offers a single- or multi-perspective-integrated, pluralistic approach, which means that he has a variety of therapeutic skills from which to draw, enabling him to develop and implement an individualised treatment schedule matched to client needs.

Which models are best is jointly decided at initial consultation and ongoing but might be Psycho-educational, Parental and Post-Diagnostic Support, Human Givens, or Psychodynamic, Humanistic or Cognitive Behavioural in nature. Robert’s experience has centred on working with clients with school-attendance difficulties, parental support, anger, anxiety, depression, child behaviour improvement, emotional literacy and resilience, phobias, gaming issues, ASC/D, and family counselling.

Robert can arrange to meet with you for sessions of varying intensity and frequency, following the initial consultation to discover your current circumstances and set goals. Be as relaxed as you can be and as committed, open and honest throughout to get the most from the sessions. Depending on your circumstances, requirements and needs, you will have the option of single-session support or ongoing sessions with review points. Clients’ therapy usually ends following significant improvement, while others may wish continue with a new focus, or possibly return after a break from therapy to continue with different or further work. There is no one approach, pattern or duration which fits all; everybody’s needs in therapy will differ. The important thing is to get the help that you need.

Robert holds a degree in Psychology and is a registered graduate member of the BPS (British Psychological Society). He is a senior member of the ACCPH, whose aims, goals, standards and quality charters guide his working practice on- and offline. Robert is a Graduate Trainee with the Human Givens College and is registered with The Human Givens Institute as such.

Robert has 29 years’ experience in providing information, advice, guidance and support to young people and adults, as well as leadership of schools. His qualifications and Senior Leadership experience demonstrate his strong background and expertise in children’s education, inclusion, SEN/Ds, safeguarding and pastoral care. He has experience as an Assistant Headteacher in two secondary schools with Post-16 provision, and coaching, mentoring, teaching and tutoring adults as an Associate Lecturer and Sessional Academic on two universities’ postgraduate programmes and so understands typical difficulties and emotional needs in these contexts.

He has a master’s degree and two post-graduate qualifications, and can support teams (with motivation, morale, significant events and relationships issues) in larger organisations, also. Other services may be considered upon request. For example, Robert is fully conversant with educational settings and can work with schools, colleges or universities where a peer-group, class-level, teacher-training (CPD/INSET) or whole-institution intervention may be desired. Schools may also wish to take advantage of lesson observations when deciding on approaches to classroom-based behaviour modification for inclusion or helping young people to cope with anxieties, for example, where Robert could work concurrently with members of staff with bespoke coaching around one child’s / young person’s needs.

Robert also works as part of a multi-disciplinary team with a Clinical Psychologist and Speech and Language Therapist to provide a fully recognised private ASD diagnosis, including administration of the ADOS-2 assessment. He is trained to assess children, young people and adults of any age.

Robert began his career as a teacher and, so, holds a degree and PGCE in German and French, with an additional specialism in EAL-student needs, a Masters in Education (Leadership & Management), and has worked with children in care and as a Designated Child Protection Coordinator (now DSL) in two schools.

Currently, Robert is a psychotherapist working with diverse and complex client needs. He works in post-diagnostic support with children and adults with various diagnoses (including parental support) and with schools. He has experience with school attendance difficulties (aka EBSA, or school refusal) and behaviour support. He also enjoys research in his field.

Robert is DBS-subscribed.

What to expect in a therapy session

Whichever service you decide fits your needs, or answers one of life's many temporary or enduring difficulties, a consultation with me should offer hope for a better next step. Perhaps you are thinking of your own situation, or that of your family; or maybe you lead a team or an organisation and wish to develop healthier practices among your colleagues... Whatever it may be, making contact today could be a sound decision.

Whatever your unmet needs may be, I am here to offer assessment, therapy, training and support. Engaging is a process of growth and self-discovery for all involved, and in our sessions I promote positive change by encouraging and helping you to understand and reflect on how you might wish to be. This self-compassion and positive outlook with new understandings, possibilities, attitudes, actions and reactions is often a revelation. Other times, people need someone to help remind them of their way.

I have the tools and experience to help you get back on track.
